Release notes for Oto, the now-playing widget with live synced lyrics for Spotify and Apple Music.
0.3.3
"Notch Mode" is back at one click, in the menu bar item next to "Stay on Top".
0.3.2
The menu bar item is now Oto's own vinyl record instead of a generic music note.
0.3.1
"Stay on Top" is now in the menu bar item, with a check mark showing its current state — no need to open Settings to flip it.
0.3.0
Settings is now a proper window instead of a nest of context-menu items — every preference in one place, in five sections.
A menu bar item: what's playing, play, pause and skip, and a way into every window Oto has. It's always there, so the app can no longer end up with nothing you can click.
Oto now tells you when it can't read your player. Instead of "Nothing playing" forever, it names the player and offers a button straight to the right settings pane.
Controls that can't reach your player now look like it — dimmed and unresponsive, rather than pretending to work.
A song whose lyrics failed to load is retried, so a moment of bad network no longer costs you the whole track.
The mute button follows your player's real volume, including changes you make in Spotify or Music. It can no longer jump the volume to a level you never chose.
Full-screen lyrics and the notch bar now follow display changes — plug in a monitor and they resize instead of staying wrong.
Making a lyric card while the song changes no longer mixes one song's words with another's artwork.
Every control now has a name for VoiceOver, and lyric lines announce as the buttons they are.
Reduce Motion is respected everywhere; two hover animations used to ignore it.
A translated line that failed can be translated again, instead of staying blank for the rest of the song.
Plus a stale track that is now dropped rather than left on screen, a lyrics cache that clears out expired entries, and a good number of smaller corrections.
0.2.3
Float on track change: when the widget lives behind other windows, it now pops to the front for a moment whenever a new song starts, then tucks itself back — with a configurable float duration.
Float above full-screen apps, so the widget can appear over full-screen windows.
Hide the widget when nothing is playing, with an optional reveal while you hover where it lives.
Pin the music source to Spotify or Apple Music instead of automatic switching.
Choose what double-clicking the artwork does: full-screen lyrics or show the music app.
Optional Dock icon, with the current album art as the icon.
0.2.2
Automatic updates: Oto now checks for signed updates and installs them in place.
0.2.1
More reliable track following — fixed races and dropped player notifications that could leave lyrics on the previous song.
0.2.0
Redesigned onboarding with a shared design language across app and site.
Notch Mode: a lyric bar that extends the notch, with expanded playback controls.
New "Lacquer" vinyl app icon.
Signed, notarized release builds.
0.1.0
First release: a tiny desktop widget with live synced lyrics.
Follows Spotify and Apple Music, whichever is playing.
Full-screen lyrics mode (⌘L), lyric share cards, romanization and translation.
